Ophelia Ford Back in Court

MyEyeWitnessNews.com

On Wednesday morning, Ophelia Ford will be in a Memphis courtroom fighting to keep her State Senate seat.

Ford was elected by 13 votes last fall in the District 29 race to replace her brother, John Ford. It was later shown that several of those votes were illegally cast.

Last week, the Senate was set to vote on whether to invalidate that election, but Ford got an injunction to stop that from happening.

Three state senators have been subpoenaed to testify at Wednesday's hearing in this case. They include Republican Mark Norris of Collierville and Curtis Person Junior of Memphis.

Both men claim they should not be forced to appear. They say senators cannot be called to testify to debate anywhere but in the Senate.

Ophelia Ford tells Eyewitness News she is sorry about the inconvenience that the lawsuit is causing.

Democratic Senator Don McLeary of Humboldt has also been subpoenaed to testify at Wednesday's hearing.
