A Message from Mark…..
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to continue representing you in the Tennessee Senate.
What a privilege it is to serve as the Senate Majority Leader with a REAL majority. Election Day 2008 saw Tennesseans elect three, new Republicans to the State Senate. This gives us 19 Republicans and 14 Democrats.
With the election of four new Republicans in the House of Representatives, Tennessee now enjoys a Republican majority in the General Assembly for the first time in 140 years. Generations of partisanship under Democrat rule can now come to an end.
This means an opportunity to restructure state government in ways most Tennesseans have never considered. It could mean that the General Assembly will be able to elect new, Constitutional Officers - Secretary of State, Treasurer and Comptroller. The State Election Commission and each election commission within every one of Tennessee's 95 counties will no longer be controlled by those who are more interested in patronage than principle.
Now that the elections are behind us, it is time for a renewed focus on Tennessee's future. We have a lot of work to do, and the circumstances will not be easy, but you have given us a great opportunity to build upon our success for the betterment of all.
Thank you for making this possible.
Sincerely yours,
Mark Norris
Senate Majority Leader
